Museum
Havens House, the museum, is
located at 16 South Ferry Road. It was a very important
Colonial home when it was built in 1743. It was a four over four with a
central hall, which means that it had four rooms on both floors and a
central hall with a door at each end. The front of the house faced
south as was the custom. The stairs are on the left side of the hall.
The building has been expanded with rooms on both sides extending
north. The extension on the west is the Society Office and the
extension on the east is an exhibition area. The rooms in the Havens
farmhouse are kept fresh and the exhibit changes when new acquisitions
are made by the Society. Of particular interest to children
are the kitchen, which predates electrification, and the children's
room.
The Society's collection of carriages are stored in
the barn, along with an extensive collection of old wooden tools.
Hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to
3 pm and by appointment.
Admission donation: Adults $3, Children $1.
